曝气是一个水和空气充分接触的过程。这过程通常也叫做充氧处理。曝气过程在自然环境中很常见，比如湍流起伏就是水流天然曝气的过程。在工业过程中，水流通常是逆流与空气或强迫气流相向接触。一些集中水处理系统也会用到曝气处理池。水和空气的接触时间以及水中的空气含量必须足够，才能确保去除不需要的气体。
