Rainwater Harvesting, Storage and Purification - RainCap |
RainCap...
Large scale rainwater storage can be the solution for many water problems. The main problem is to find simple and effective solutions for storage of large volumes of rainwater. The present solution is to construct large concrete tanks. But these tanks are difficult to construct and differential settlements of the ground can easily result in micro cracks, leakage etc. The Dutch company AAWS in the Netherlands has developed an innovative and new way to capture and store large volumes of water, the RainCap. It is a simple foil material: in essence a grey plastic bin bag, which as a receptor for rainwater (the RainCap) will be buried into the ground. Costs of this RainCap: 2500 Euros with a storage capacity of 50.000 liters of water. For domestic use there’s a smaller one. The top of the RainCap is closed, so dirt can’t get into the water and pollute it. With a special UV lamp the water can be filtered for drinking water, making it free from bacteria and safe for consumption. Purified water from the RainCap costs 0,1 to 0,2 cents per liter. The system has been implemented in several African countries and in the near future this technique will be introduced in India and Indonesia. The system is perfect to implement in peri-urban and rural areas. In this setting specially villages, schools, hospitals and compounds are the ones to have profit of this innovation. Once trained, a local workforce can take care of installations easily. Please don't hesitate contacting us if you require more information. Kindest regards, |
