|The Survey Library is now live!
Since our translation program began last summer, we've had the honor and privilege of several new translating volunteers to help us transform Akvopedia into a truly global online WASH encyclopedia. We now have Spanish, French, some Malayalam, Tamil & Hindi, and some Chinese and Korean pages, and more coming in all the time. Céline joined us as a French translator, and has been doing a beautiful job on our Water Portal. Allowing our pages to reach and benefit French speakers from around the world.
+
The Survey library contains two "shelves" of information: standards and surveys. Standards assist you in gathering, understanding, and using high quality data for decision making in all things water, sanitation, hygiene (WASH) -related. Surveys are questionnaires that apply the standards.

Céline has shared this about her work: "For a translator recently graduated, translating for Akvopedia gives the chance of gaining knowledge and specializing on water and sanitation issues, two key themes in today’s world, and thus to acquire valuable experience. This is also an opportunity to participate fully in the activities of Akvopedia providing a useful work for a large community!"
+
Some of the supporting organizations who've created the standards are WHO, UNICEF, and SIASAR. For instance, the Joint Monitoring Program (JMP) is a popular standard for sanitation, drinking water, and others.

C’est également l’occasion de participer pleinement aux activités d’Akvopedia en fournissant un travail utile à une large communauté!"

* Updated!! Compendium of Sanitation Systems and Technologies, 2nd Edition: The entire Sanitation Portal is now updated with the most current information from the new compendium from Sandec/EAWAG. It contains several brand new topics such as Pre-treatment Technologies, Settler, and the Imhoff tank. Plus redefinitions for many sanitation products. Biomass is now included a lot as well. Plus some newer versions of treatment systems that mention biogas and blackwater more frequently than the 1st edition.

* New guide: Handbook on Data Collection. The AfriAlliance Handbook provides guidance on how best to develop a data collection project to ensure high quality data is collected and maximum impact is achieved. Safe sanitation is essential for health, from preventing infection to improving and maintaining mental and social well-being. The lack of safe sanitation contributes to diarrhea, a major public health concern and a leading cause of disease and death among children under five years in low- and middle- income countries; poor sanitation also contributes to several neglected tropical diseases, as well as broader adverse outcomes such as under-nutrition. Lack of access to suitable sanitation facilities is also a major cause of risks and anxiety, especially for women and girls. For all these reasons, sanitation that prevents disease and ensures privacy and dignity has been recognized as a basic human right.

* NEW RWH TOOLS: Make a personalized GIS rainwater harvesting map - We have teamed up with RAIN to create three new rainwater harvesting (RWH) tools in Akvopedia. One of these is called the Rainwater Harvesting GIS Map. You can follow three steps to create a RWH map to see optimal places of rainwater collection in your area. The other tools, Rain is Gain Tool and WASH Environmental Sustainability Assessment, help you to both assess your water needs/supply and make sure your WASH project is environmentally sustainable, respectively.

The Survey Library is now live!

The Survey library contains two "shelves" of information: standards and surveys. Standards assist you in gathering, understanding, and using high quality data for decision making in all things water, sanitation, hygiene (WASH) -related. Surveys are questionnaires that apply the standards.

Some of the supporting organizations who've created the standards are WHO, UNICEF, and SIASAR. For instance, the Joint Monitoring Program (JMP) is a popular standard for sanitation, drinking water, and others.
