DelAgua Programme in Rwanda

The first such programme is underway in Rwanda. According to the WHO, over 60% of Rwandans do not have ready access to clean water. As in much of the developing world, water is often either consumed untreated or boiled using wood or fossil fuel fires. This has major adverse implications for health, carbon emissions and deforestation.

The DelAgua Health programme in Rwanda aims to benefit more than 3 million people. It includes a household scale water treatment system that addresses microbiological contamination and a high efficiency cookstove that reduces indoor air pollution and fuel use.

The [httphttps://www.lshtm.ac.uk/research/faculties/itd/dcd/ department-disease-control London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine], the [http://mcedc.colorado.edu/ University of Colorado at Boulder] and [http://184.73.190.241/ Portland State University] are independently monitoring the project. The first phase, covering 9,000 people in 15 villages, has been successfully completed. For more information visit [http://www.delaguahealth.com delaguahealth.com].

DelAgua is actively considering further programmes in other developing countries.
