GoodWater - Solar Water Disinfection Device
WADI™ is an easy-to-use and cost-effective UV measurement device that visualises the process of solar water disinfection. WADI™ is solar-powered, operates without the use of chemicals and filters, and can help reduce water-borne diseases thanks to the power of the sun.
Solar water disinfection is approved by the United Nations (UN) for being a simple and cheap water disinfection method and is recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO) as a viable method for household water treatment: When contaminated water is filled into a transparent polyethylene terephthalate (PET) bottle and exposed to the sun, the UV radiation of the sun kills pathogens in the water. Measuring the UV radiation and comparing it to scientific data, WADI™ visualises solar water disinfection by letting the user know as soon as the water is safe to drink.
The concept of solar water disinfection is suitable for daily usage and the handling of WADI™ is easy: Put WADI™ onto the water-filled PET-bottle like a screw cap, expose both WADI™ and the PET-bottle to the sun and wait. As soon as a happy smiley face appears on the display, the water is potable. Under favourable conditions, the solar water disinfection process takes a few hours.
The device can be used and shared by several persons and families since many bottles of water can be purified simultaneously. Internationally understandable pictograms on the device facilitate correct usage.
