Aim — Japan Bank for International Cooperation(JBIC) has made a new start as a policy financing institution wholly owned by the Japanese government. JBIC provides policy-based finance with a mission to contribute to the sound development of Japan and the international economy and society.

More information — Environmental conservation is one of the major challenges to the global community. Environmental and social considerations are thus an integral part of JBIC operations.

In individual projects it finances, JBIC confirms that the project proponent makes appropriate environmental and social considerations. In addition, JBIC is active in supporting the projects contributing to environmental conservation and improvement as well as those helping to preserve the global environment by reducing greenhouse gas emissions. JBIC provides advice for Japanese firms, foreign governments and others with respect to utilization of the Kyoto Protocol, including innovative financing for improving project revenues and reducing borrowing costs by using carbon, and on the investment climate in host countries.
