雨水は、直接獲得されませんが、農業で使用され、または地表へ吸収され地表水へとなります。地表水貯留は、すべてのシステムを含んで集水し、暴風雨後の地表流出、または開放された池や貯水池での貯蔵のための小川、川および湿地帯での地表流出を保護します。これは、家庭利用(処理が通常必要です)、灌漑、家畜、そして水産養殖へ直接水を供給できます。貯蔵は、開放された貯水池、または地下へ帯水層する直接浸透(侵入)かどうか、また地表水を集水することを目的とすることができます。帯水層保護水での貯蔵水は、開放された貯水池システムとは異なり、蒸発を防ぎより適しています。
地球温暖化考慮
干ばつ時の、セメント製水収集構造は、セメント作りの過程で使用される水が少ない(もしくは、汚染された)ために乏しく製造されるかもしれません。地球温暖化の高温度は、貯水池の蒸発率を上昇させるでしょう、または洪水が基礎構造を破壊し、流出水量を増やすでしょう。これらの影響はさらに記載され、地球温暖化状況への水システム適用ため、コツが与えられるでしょう。
