Les petits exploitants agricoles en Afrique sub-saharienne et en Asie du sud utilisent de plus en plus des dispositifs d’irrigation à petite échelle pour cultiver leurs terres. Des dispositifs d’irrigation individuels et opérationnels améliorent les rendements, réduisent les risques liés à la variabilité climatique et augmentent les revenus des exploitants, leur permettant ainsi de se nourrir, se soigner et d’accéder à l’éducation. De nombreux autres exploitants pourraient profiter des grandes possibilités qu’offrent les dispositifs d’irrigation à petite échelle. Ce compte-rendu permet aux gouvernements, donateurs, institutions de crédit, secteur privé et aux exploitants agricoles de prendre des décisions éclairées en matière d’investissements dans la gestion de l’eau agricole (AWM) susceptibles de changer la vie de millions de personnes en régions rurales.
