This portal is a listing of different types of organisations who are working in the water and sanitation sector. We have structured organisations under a number of different headings and tried to place them under, what we think, is their primary mission. Of course many of these fit under multiple headings.

Non Governmental Organisations

An NGO is an organisation that implements projects in the local region, country where they are based or internationally. The grouping below is based on what scale and where the organisations operate.

International

   ABC was originally launched in 2006 to coincide with Fourth Australian Water
   Summit.  ABC is a resource for water related issues drawing from grass root sources in
   Australia.

   The Action Against Hunger International network is committed to saving the lives of  
   malnourished children and their families while ensuring access to safe water and 
   sustainable solutions to hunger. Action Against Hunger works in over 40 countries 
   carrying out innovative, life saving programs in nutrition, food scarcity, water and
   sanitation, public health and advocacy.

   AMREF empowers communities to build and maintain clean water systems appropriate for  
   local conditions.  They work in Africa to improve access to safe, reliable and 
   sustainable water supply and sanitation facilities.  They are the largest health 
   organization in the world. They are headquartered in Nairobi, Kenya

   Africare works to improve the quality of life in Africa.  They support programs in  
   water resource development in addition to health, food security, and emergency response.

Knowledge & Research organisations

Knowledge organisations primarily assemble, refine and disseminate knowledge about water and sanitation. Knowledge centers can often be seen as broker between parties, facilitation organisations with knowledge of water and sanitation technologies and approaches.
