Bangladesh Association for Social Advancement (BASA) is a not-for-profit, non-governmental and non-political organization established in 1991 by like-minded social workers to serve the socio-economically depressed communities in the central region of Bangladesh. BASA works in the fields of poverty alleviation, sustainable development and empowerment of the poor, particularly women, through a wide array of development programs.

Mission, Vision and Goals

BASA's Vision is of A socially and economically developed and peaceful society free from all kinds of discriminations and repressions where people can live with dignity, security, respect for each other and hope for the better future.

Its Mission is to Create positive and sustainable socio-economic change in the lives of the poor and disadvantaged, particularly women, ethnic minorities and disabled people through awareness raising, skills development, Income Generating Activities (IGAs), micro credit, non formal education, advocacy, health services and environment conservation and sustainable development.

BASA's main objectives include: - Sustainable development for the poor and disadvantaged - Creation of employment opportunities - Access to basic social services such as health and education - Culture of social responsibility - Environmentally responsible development - Promotion of social justice

BASA's Programs

BASA provides microfinance services to several communities in Bangladesh. These types of services includes Microcredit to the Poorest, as well as loans for Micro Enterprises. It currents has about $3 million USD in outstanding loans, but has managed to maintain a repayment rate of over 99 percent.

BASA also provides waste management and ecologically sanitary devices to rural communities, including schools and even in certain slums. Furthermore, BASA works to provide education about legal rights to women in rural areas. As part of another program, BASA supports local bee farmers by marketing the all-natural honey that they produce under the brand name, "Aadi Honey".
